Liverpool comeback to send Aston Villa back into the relegation zone.
Goals from Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard were enough to comeback against an Aston Villa side eager to win, hoping to stay in the Premier League. Villa took the lead as Gabriel Agbonlahor set Christian Benteke to fire pass Pepe Reina. Villa could’ve and maybe should’ve scored before when Matt Lowton’s beautiful pass found Agbonlahor but he hit it straight at Reina. The underdogs went into the half in the lead just as they did at Anfield the last time the teams met with Villa winning 3-1 on the day. 2 minutes into the 2nd half Philippe Coutinho found Jordan Henderson with an inch perfect pass and Henderson finished with calmness and composure to equalize for Liverpool. The Premier League’s top scorer, Luis Suarez, couldn’t score today but he did have many chances and was doing his usual thing by ‘nutmegging’ his opponent. The Villa defence showed how hard it is to defend against Suarez as Aston Villa centre-back Nathan Baker took out Suarez to concede a penalty. Steven Gerrard took the penalty (as usual) and drove it into the bottom corner giving Liverpool a well deserved lead and his 11th goal against Aston Villa. Villa couldn’t do much as they tried to take the lead in a must win game for them. A chance did come for them as Benteke headed on goal only to see it cleared off the line by Steven Gerrard. The loss for Villa keeps them in the relegation places, level on points with Wigan who have a game in hand. Liverpool dreams of a Champions League place are dying out match by match but will want to win all of their games to have hope, on the other hand finishing above Everton wouldn’t be too bad for Liverpool fans would it?
